CUSTOMS BORDER HOLD UPDATE

Many Importers are experiencing long delays in the processing of their containers by the ABF. This is leading to unnecessary charges such as container detention and wharf storage , not to mention the delay in receiving their goods . The ABF ( Australian Border Force ) is aware of these delays and have taken steps to alleviate them .GPSM are always monitoring any shipments selected for Border Hold Processing and will act quickly when any containers come off Border Hold to save you any inconvenience.

Below is the current information as provided by the ABF

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of IFCBAA as we continue to deliver critical border protection functions in a period of high tempo operational activity. The ABF is applying a significant focus on prohibited importations and recognises that there may be delays where we have identified potential border security risks. We acknowledge the impact this is having with members of industry.

As previously advised, we have redeployed resources to reduce delays wherever possible. We have:

  • Surged additional resources to support this effort, particularly in the sea cargo environment;
  • Increased ABF presence on the wharf;
  • Increased screening hours at the Container Examination Facility (CEF); and
  • Made changes to increase the number of containers screened through the CEF.

Further, we are working with the port operator to prioritise ABF container movements. We are proactively looking at all possible options to increase our examination rate.

This is a priority for the ABF and will continue to identify and implement options available to us to work through the backlog.
