Please note any containers requiring wharf collection over the Easter period will incur additional costs. These will depend on vessel availability and your opening hours. While we will attempt to reduce any wharf storage it may be applicable. There may also be costs of container detention depending on the free days allowed and your ability to unload. Any detention costs will be passed on for your payment.

As always GPSM will take all steps to minimise extra costs. Full details of costs affecting your specific container/s will be sent you prior to Easter via transport note on your shipment.

Please note that we have been advised that a winter snowstorm warning is in effect in the Northeast region of USA. By tomorrow the forecast is expected to have up to 12 to 18 inches of snow in the city and this storm is expected to continue throughout the day and into the early evening.

Truckers have advised that they have limited operation and some terminals have already closed.

Long Island Rail Road and the subway are operating on normal schedules at present.

Metro-North, New Jersey Transit and Amtrak are operating on limited schedules.

More than 2,350 area flights have been cancelled.

Several cities/terminals will feel the effects of this snowstorm

Due to the above, we are expecting delays in pick-ups, deliveries and transit times. We will continue to monitor and advise of any other updates that we receive.

New Note Category Customs/ Quarantine Note

We have introduced a new note category to Communicater (CTR) called Customs/Quarantine Note. Customs note is now available from your shipment screen and can be accessed from the same area you currently go to for Shipment Note or Transport Note.

Our customs team will now commence using customs note for all matters that relate to Australian Customs & quarantine matters for clearance of your shipment. Please use the yellow post-it to reply to these notes so your message goes straight to our customs team. Just like with other note categories, you can also add a new customs note by clicking on this button from your shipment page.

So we now have 4 note categories:

1) PO Note, found in your purchase order screen, use this to tell us information about your order before it becomes a confirmed shipment.
2) Shipment Note, found on your shipment screen. Use this note to tell us any information once your order has become a confirmed shipment while in transit. Or for all shipping matters on your export shipment.
3) Transport Note, found on your shipment screen. Use this note to tell us any information about your delivery (if import) or pickup (if export)
4) Customs Note/Quarantine Note, found on your shipment screen. Use this note to tell us any information about customs & quarantine matters for your imports shipments.

You can use the post-it reply method when you reply to our message, which makes it automatically the same note category that we sent you. You can also start a fresh note in any category. All notes are logged in CTR for your future reference showing who sent and who received the note.

All notes are automatically distributed inside GPSM to the correct people.

New Document Required Box

If you look at the top right-hand side of your screen  you will now see a Documents Required Box, Inside this box you will find listed the key documents required for your shipment. As we receive the copies of documents from you and other sources we will add them to your Doc Pack, at that time they will be removed from this new Document Required Box. (This feature only relates to us receiving copy documents, if originals are required current systems still apply)

Regarding Original Bill of Lading, the same system as currently applies remains unchanged. That is noted on your shipment.

New FTA flag in your shipment

We have added a new checkbox to better manage when an FTA applies. This box appears above your BOL Status box. If your shipment has an origin country where there is an FTA in place with Australia, this box will be visible on your shipment. Initially, it will show “May be Required” what this is saying is that there is FTA in place with origin country, but as yet we have not assessed the commercial invoice to determine if the goods are dutiable. If the goods are duty-free in their own right, FTA is not required as no commercial advantage. We will select the updated option once we have assessed the commercial invoice and then you will see either:

Is required in order to obtain reduced duty

Is not required as good are duty-free in their own right

As always FTA is optional, if not supplied it may effect duty payable. If it’s supplied after delivery and duty were paid, a refund of duty may be possible, processing fees apply.

The Department of Agriculture & Water Resources ( DAWR ) has found that offshore treatments for Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) are failing to treat live insects, as a consequence of this and to manage the risk posed by this DAWR will no longer accept treatment certificates issued by any Italian Treatment provider from 9th March 2018.

Any Italian goods shipped on or before 30 April 2018 will be subject to mandatory inspection and fumigation at an approved onshore provider. Treatment certificates issued for approved BMSB treatments, other than Sulphuryl Fluoride from Italy will still be accepted.

Goods exempted from this treatment are listed below, all other goods are subject to inspection & fumigation.

Fresh Produce
Live Animals
Food for human consumption ( including beverages )
Seeds for sowing
Registered Pharmaceuticals

As a consequence of the Mandatory fumigation program in place for The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB), this has caused a backlog for Importers requesting an officer who has either a Bio Security inspection or Imported Food Inspection (IFIP) due to an increase in Bio Security officers handling BMSB Inspections. This has caused a delay of approximately 5 – 7 working days to book an officer for inspections.

Bio Securities is monitoring the situation and trying to assist in the deployment of their staff to accommodate importers. We also take this opportunity to remind importers affected by the mandatory fumigation that all costs incurred in this including Container detention are at the importers’ account.

Dear Clients,

There has been an unforeseen mechanical event/safety issue occur at DP World Port Botany Terminal that has closed the entire operations since 8.00am Tuesday 27th February 2018.

We were originally advised that the terminal would be closed for approximately 1 hour only on Tuesday, however, following an inspection by Work Safety authorities, we are now advised that all operations will be closed down until at least 11.00am Wednesday 28th February 2018.

Obviously, this has had a major effect on all import deliveries and export receivals at the terminal, our Transport Team will be in contact as soon as the terminal reopens with reconfirmed details on any deliveries that have been affected.

Due to high volumes of Fumigations being carried out for (BMSB) all depots are experiencing severe delays in the processing of these containers. Containers are not being accepted in depots till backlogs clear which has caused intense pressure on both depot operators and Bio-Security Staff that are monitoring the Mandatory fumigations.

A number of depots are deploying additional shifts to manage this situation which will not end until the 30 April 2018 when measures will be ceased.

Please be aware that depots are not accepting any liability for any container demurrage that may be incurred whilst this program is in place.

We will continue to monitor the situation and ensure all measures are taken to ease any costs or delays during this period.

Chinese New Year is coming up from 15th February to 21st February. Please make sure they have all documents prior to this date to avoid any extra costs.

DO YOU IMPORT FROM ITALY? PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING.

The Department of Agriculture & Water Resources ( DAWR ) has significant numbers of Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs ( BMSB ) in shipping containers being imported from Italy. To manage the risk posed by this, all containerised goods shipped via sea freight from Italy that arrives in Australia between the 17th January 2018 and the 30th April 2018 will be subject to MANDATORY FUMIGATION at an approved treatment facility at the importers’ cost.

Rates from South East Asian Ports to Australian Ports:

Shipping Lines have announced a General Rate Increase of between USD 100.00 and USD 200.00/20ft and USD 200.00 and USD 400.00/40ft container from all ports in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia to all Australian ports effective from 1st January 2018. It is expected that this increase will also flow onto LCL shipments with an anticipated increase of between USD 4.00 and USD 8.00 per cbm/1000kgs.

GPSM rates will be updated on our website.

Rates from Far East Asian Ports to Australian Ports:

Some Shipping Lines have announced a small General Rate Increase of between USD 25.00 and USD 50.00/20ft and between USD 50.00 and USD 100.00/40ft container from all ports in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, China and Hong Kong to all Australian ports effective from 1st January 2018. Other carriers have implemented higher increases.

The rate levels from North East Asia have remained strong from the pre-Christmas volumes and we are not expecting any reductions until after Chinese New Year in February 2018.

GPSM rates will be updated on our website accordingly.

Increased Port Infrastructure Fees:

Please note that D P World is again increasing their Port Infrastructure Charge to be effective from 1st January 2018. The new charge will be $ 52.00/container in Melbourne, while in Sydney and Brisbane $ 45.00/container. GPSM web charges will be updated to reflect the new charge.

Chinese New Year Shipping Schedule:

We would remind clients that space in late January and early February 2018 is expected to be very tight and we would recommend that our Customer Service staff be advised of any urgent orders to ship in this period as soon as possible. We understand that some lines may offer “blank sailings” through January and February in an attempt to create a false space market with a view to keeping ocean rates at the highest level we have seen in the last decade.

Airline Fuel Surcharges from Hong Kong-Australia:

Airlines operating out of Hong Kong have announced an increase in the fuel surcharge for all airfreight shipments to Australia effective from 1st January 2018.

The rate will increase from HKD 1.20/kg to HKD 1.70/kg, GPSM web rates will be adjusted to reflect the new costs.

Melbourne Port Blockade:

The long-running port blockade at Melbourne’s Web Dock was eventually resolved just prior to Christmas holiday with the unions finally agreeing to the Court Order that had been issued a week earlier.

Melbourne port is now operating normally again with all three (3) main terminals back in full work mode.
