TRANSHIPMENT PORT SIGNIFICANT DELAYS

Ocean Rates from Far East Asia-Australian Trucking Rates

As per our previous post, significant delays continue to plague the major transshipment hubs of Singapore and Port Klang, Malaysia. Shipping lines are still grappling with substantial volumes and a variety of operational issues, resulting in persistent backlogs at these critical points in the global supply chain.

Key factors impacting:

  • Additional transit via Cape of Good Hope to avoid Suez Canal now having a significant knock-on effect to global schedules worldwide
  • Shortages of empty container’s available in key ports as needed
  • Unexpected volume spike in global shipping, especially at this time of year which is usually low season

While all Australian ports are now being impacted by these delays, in particular the ports of Fremantle and Adelaide are most heavily affected as several shipping lines are now not accepting booking to these ports from Europe. Currently, the average delay for shipments to Australian ports if cargo has been transhipped from Asia range from 2 – 6 weeks.

Cargo for bookings originating in Singapore and Malaysia for Australia are also being affected due to severe port congestion.

Furthermore, there are reports that some shipping lines are not accepting export bookings from Australia to Europe

Shipping lines report that this his situation is expected to persist for the next 2- 4 weeks at least, as the shipping lines continue to work to relieve pressures.

GPSM will keep you updated on further developments as soon as more information is available, in the meantime please watch out for updates to your ETA and Est Del dates in Australia.
